Current Research

Since the Industrial Revolution, increasing greenhouse gas concentrations have been driving substantial changes in both physical and biogeochemical processes in the ocean, with their impacts becoming increasingly evident in recent years. My research aims to quantitatively characterize these oceanic changes using in situ observations, particularly ship-based measurements and Argo floats, and to elucidate the underlying physical and biogeochemical mechanisms.
Examples of research topics:(1) Impacts of increasingly frequent marine heatwaves on oceanic CO₂ uptake(2) Links between changes in intermediate-to-deep circulation and ongoing ocean deoxygenation in the North Pacific(3) Observation-based quantification of the ocean biological carbon pump and its variability and long-term changes(4) Quantitative understanding of ocean responses to tropical cyclones using Argo data
